Questions about this webinar
Does Medicare cover diabetes testing supplies?
Yes. Medicare Part B covers blood sugar monitors, test strips and lancets for people with diabetes when ordered by a doctor, subject to the Part B deductible and 20% coinsurance on approved amounts.
How does Medicare cover insulin?
Insulin used with an external pump is covered under Part B. Other insulin is covered under Part D prescription plans, and Medicare caps what you pay for each covered insulin product at $35 for a one-month supply.
What preventive diabetes services does Medicare include?
Medicare covers diabetes screening tests, diabetes self-management training, medical nutrition therapy for eligible people, and the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program for those at risk of type 2 diabetes. Therapeutic shoes may also be covered for qualifying patients.
Will a Medicare Supplement or Advantage plan lower my diabetes costs?
It can. A Medigap plan can pay the 20% coinsurance and deductibles that Original Medicare leaves behind, and Medicare Advantage plans cap yearly out-of-pocket spending. The right choice depends on your doctors, medications and budget.
Is the Medicare and diabetes webinar free?
Yes. The session is free and educational, with an interactive Q&A with health insurance consultants.
